In the vicinity there are many walks and less than a kilometer along the reef at low tide are magnificent rock pools where you can swim or simply admire. It is also a beautiful walk along the beach to the Tiwi river. Here you will find magnificent sunsets silhouetting the ancient Baobab trees near the old Congo mosque, a building dating back centuries. The river is also home to many birds including the rare nightjar heron.
Diani, the tourist centre on the south coast is only 10 kms away. There you will find banks, restaurants, supermarkets, boutiques, bars, discos, casinos, car rental, hospital, dentist and an 18-hole championship golf course. The nearest game park is the Shimba Hills, just 20 min. drive from Beehive Cottages. The park is famed for its elephants, cape buffalo and the rare sable antelope. Further afield but still only a few hours by car is the largest game reserve in the world, Tsavo National Park. Here you will find all the big game Africa has to offer.

Health Precautions:
The East African coast is a malarial area and prophylactics must be taken. A small well equipped private hospital is in Diani. As with all destinations in Africa clear medical advice is required from your doctor & comprehensive medical insurance is strongly advised. For further updated information www.amref.org
